An escape room is a physical adventure game in which players are locked in a room and have to use elements of the room to solve a series of puzzles and escape within a set time limit.  The games are physical versions of “escape the room” video games. Games are set in a variety of fictional locations, such as prison cells, dungeons and space stations, and are popular as team building exercises.

Escape Rooms are very interactive, hands-on games that you can play with other people! Instead of sitting in front of your TV or computer to play games, you are literally immersed in a total mind and body experience. Solving puzzles and locating clues together means great laughs with your teammates while you play. Escape Rooms are a fun activity for all ages, in any weather condition, for any occasion.

Yes. Escape Room is by far the most common terminology for physical adventure games in which players are locked in a room and have to solve puzzles to escape.  That said, there are other names including paniq rooms, puzzle rooms, breakout games and rooms, twisted rooms, exit rooms, mystery rooms, and panic escape rooms to describe the same or similar adventure games.
